The Workhorse was designed to be just what its name implies: a workhorse, i.e. an instrument meant to be played, and played again. Although its overall design is fairly classic, with traditional f-holes and 17" lower bout, its redburst finish, stunning flamed back, and decorative elements are sure to attract some attention and comments from the audience. As the case with the vast majority of my archtops, tops and backs are individually carved and graded for optimal tonal response. Given its unusually high flame figure, carving the back - see next page - was in this case a pretty interesting challenge. I trust you will agree with me that that the end result was worth the effort though.

Since I'm left-handed and my jazz guitar skills are less than adequate, I rely on "professional test drivers" to rate my archtops. So far, all those who have played this instrument have come with similar comments: very-well balanced across the whole fretboard, good sustain, no dead spot, and a pleasure to play. One of them even told me that "if Diana Krall were to call him to go on tour, that's the instrument he would take with him..."
