The Lady in Black got her name from the fact that she is ...all black, with just a few touches of red here and there.
In this 17" archtop, D'Aquisto style sound holes replace traditional f-holes, giving the instrument a definitely modern look. Another difference with mainstream archtop construction is the use of mahogany for back and sides (Sitka Spruce is used for the top). Color accents are provided through the use of padaulk/ebony in both tailpiece and finger rest. Amplification is handled by a Benedetto B-6 Jazz-voiced pick up attached to the top through a solid ebony pick up ring.
This jazzbox delivers a sound that can best be described as a mix of acoustic and electric jazz box sound. Not very clear I admit, but as you can see, I'm still trying to find the right words to describe its voice. The overall balance and clarity that this instrument delivers is quite amazing: definitely a winning combination that I intend to replicate in coming instruments...But why don't you judge by yourself in these Audio and Video Clips...
